Below is part of an email I sent to the people that have come to me for golf coaching this year. It’s the first time I have really measured the performance of the people I coach as a group. Maybe more golf coaches should follow suit?
Coaching review 2012:
This is the time of year that most of us take stock of things and reflect. What sort of a year have I had at work? Did I achieve the goals I set for the year? How many of my new years resolutions have I stuck to? Have I reduced my handicap this year? I am sure these are all familiar thoughts for you at this time of year.
Well this year I have done a review of my own coaching, or maybe I should say the performance of the people I have been coaching.
I have based my finding on people that have had more than one lesson, and have reviewed performance based on handicap in 2011.
Here are my findings:
50% have improved their handicap
38% have maintained the same handicap
12% have increased their handicap
On average those players that have improved their handicap have improved by an average of 1.5 shots
On reflection those figures are positive for me (although I am a strong believer that you can always improve).
I thought about this quite a bit and made some notes on what I thought about the results.
I am pleased that the biggest percentage have improved
I need to remember that a lot of people that come to see me are not playing well and their initial goal is to get back to playing to their handicap!
I cannot help everyone
I have no control of what people do after a lesson, I can only advise!
I want to improve all of those figures
Every lesson that I give I learn something about coaching
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their business in coming to me for coaching.
If you are part of the 50% lets keep up the good work, if you are part of the 38% lets keep working hard as a break through will not be far off and if you are part of the 12% and have done everything I have advised then I apologize and I hope we get an opportunity to re-think and work at your game to find the key to improving.
I would certainly suggest everyone sits down at some point and have a quick golfing review.
