Good Shot List

Golfers can always tell you what they did wrong but fall silent after a great shot when asked “what did you do well”!

I lifted my head, I didn’t turn properly, I didn’t transfer my weight………………..this list is endless.

CHANGE THIS HABIT NOW. It’s killing you as a golfer.

All golf swings will have individual movements and quirks but that doesn’t mean they can’t be effective. You need to start working on your ‘good shot list‘.

What is a good shot list?

It is what you notice happening when you hit good golf shots. Instinctively you will be thinking you hit good shots when you turn properly or do something mechanical. I want to challenge that.

I think those things will happen automatically with good shots and that you won’t consistently hit good shots by thinking about mechanical things. So my challenge is what is really happening when you hit good shots?

Next time you play or practice start taking notes. Start to write down a list of things that happen with good shots. Look to see if the same things keep appearing on the list (my bet is that over time you will start to realise that ‘swing thoughts’ or mechanical thoughts won’t appear consistently).

You can use your good shot list for 2 purposes.

  1. Make it part of your pre-shot routine. Tell your self what happens when you are hitting good shots.

2. You can use it to get back to form. We all go through spells where we don’t play well. Sometimes you see people going through a bad spell for weeks or even months. I bet that person will be adding to and using their bad shot list!

Use your ‘good shot list‘ to get you back on track.

It seems to be a human factor that when we are doing something really well, at some point we stop doing it. Don’t fight against that but use a different formula to every one else, use your good shot list and get back on track sooner.

So with competitions around the corner start to create a good shot list. Write it down. Keep it in your golf bag. Add to it if you need to. Keep referring to it.

Most importantly, it works!
