Striking your putts

Sounds obvious that you would want to strike putts from the centre of the putter but if you don’t the result will almost certainly be a missed putt.

Missing the centre of the putter can easily change the angle of the face by a few degrees. That doesn’t sound like much but over distances above 4 or 5 feet you’ve missed the putt.

As with any aspect of your golf game there are plenty of things that you can think about and work on and probably too many things that you are thinking about as you putt.

So how about simplifying things the next time you are on the course?

putter behind ball

When you putt, move all of your attention to the back of the ball and make a stroke with the focus being on striking the ball with the centre of the putter.

Keep working on that for the entire round and enjoy sweeter feeling putts that will have more chance of going in. I think you will also start to notice more consistency in distance control too!
