Change your tactics to improve your Putting.

Over-thinking when you’re over the ball will affect your performance. Your best shots will appear when things flow. Less thought and relaxed are key things that are present with good golf shots.

So when you are putting next how about changing your tactics and not think about technique.

How about thinking about the ball rather than the putter or your technique and then ask yourself this question.

What does the ball need to do to go in the hole?

Visualisation really works. Imagine, first of all, where will the ball go into the hole. Will it go straight in the front of the hole, the left side or right side. From there I like to see an imaginary line that shows me where the ball will roll to go into the hole.

This starts to help me get a feel for the pace of putt and I keep my focus on that imaginary line as I am setting up and then making the putt.

So next time you are practicing your putting or are on the course then give this a try.

  • Work backwards from the hole
  • create an imaginary line to show where the ball will roll into the hole
  • keep that imagine in mind as you putt

Could this work for the rest of your game?
