Is it just your aim?

putter behind ball

Putting. Such a simple concept.

If the ball rolls at the right speed, on the right line then it goes in.

So how many putts do you miss just because your putter blade is not lined up where you think it is?

Over the years I have seen lots of golfers missing 6 foot putts and a high percentage of those misses are down to the golfer picking a line but then not aiming the putter correctly on that line.

Here is a quick drill that you can and should do. It is also really good to do on the carpet at home or in the office.

putting aim

Place a small coin 3 feet in front of your ball. Imagine that you are going to make a 6 to 8 foot putt. Your task is to putt the ball directly over the top of the coin.

Be sure to take note of whether you miss either side of the coin and then be sure to check and adjust your alignment.

The carpet at home is an ideal place for this drill because it should be relatively flat. The more you repeat this exercise the more tuned in your eyes will get to the alignment of your putter.

Your scores will come down and you will gain confidence on those crucial scoring putts.
